ABOUT DAN:

Being born into a family of classical musicians and music teachers made it possible for Dan to study music from a very early age.  Music theory, piano, trumpet and then eventually drums and percussion made for an excellent foundation for working in the music business.  Dan performed in rock bands, jazz bands and orchestras which helped to shape his unique appreciation for great music of all genres. Dan holds a B.A. in Audio Recording from CSU Dominguez Hills, and he received a NARAS award (student Grammy) in 1990 for Best Engineered Project.

Dan’s love of music and technology were perfectly matched in a career as a music mixer and recording engineer which he has successfully pursued for the last 15 years.  Most of that time has been spent as head engineer and manager of Martinsound Studios where Dan has worked on thousands of recordings ranging from feature film scores and trailers, to national commercial jingles, classical recordings to pop albums. Dan has a wealth of experience in mixing all types of audio content on every conceivable format of equipment, digital and analog. His keen sense of pitch and timbre coupled with an ability to read musical scores helped Dan to become a very valuable asset in the booth to his clients.

During his time at Martinsound, Dan has worked with and been mentored by some of the finest scoring mixers and recording engineers in the world including: Armin Steiner, John Richards, Robert Fernandez, Toby Foster, Bill Schnee and Paul Freeman.  At Martinsound Dan has been involved in development of some of the finest recording equipment in the world including Flying Faders, Martech MSS-10 etc.  Working under legendary designers Joe Martinson and Shawn Micheal, Dan has developed a keen ear for high quality circuit designs and very high end audio.

CURRENT PROJECTS:

Recently Dan finished his 5th film for Turner Classic Movies called The Temptress.  The 105 minute, - nonstop musical score was composed by rising star and winner of the TCM Young Composer Competition, Micheal Picton.  Dan’s work on the Jazz on the Latin Side All Stars recording of The Last Bullfighter was released to rave reviews and continues to maintain a high spot on the Jazz Charts.  Dan also worked on last summer’s blockbuster film The Day After Tomorrow.  Recent collaborations include co-producing  the 2nd record for Zachary Provost (Josh Groban’s Music Director & David Foster Protégé) a rising star in the L.A. music scene, and recording and mixing world class tenor Stuart Neil for his upcoming release.
